Buzzr’s rating system is a single 1–10 slider — the same slider powers pre-game predictions and post-game ratings.

Predict Mode vs Rate Mode

WhenModePrompt
Before tipoffPredict”How good will this game be?”
After finalRate”How good was this game?”
Your pre-game prediction stays private until the game ends — you’ll get a post-game notification to confirm or revise it into your final rating. If you don’t confirm, the prediction is discarded.

Submitting a Rating

Every rating can include:
  • Score — A 1–10 number from the haptic slider
  • Take — Optional commentary (up to 140 characters)
  • Media — Optional image or GIF
  • Tags — Up to 4 descriptors (see below)
The slider uses color-coded thumbs and orbiting emoji feedback so the score feels like a reaction, not a form field.

Quick Take Templates

Not sure what to write? Tap a template:
  • “One run flipped the whole game” — Momentum swing
  • “Execution in the final minutes decided this one” — Clutch finish
  • “Underdog energy from tip-off to final buzzer” — Upset call
  • “Defense set the tone and controlled the pace” — Defense note
  • “Shot quality and spacing were elite tonight” — Offense note

Rewards

Every game you rate earns:
  • 15 XP toward your level
  • 15 Pollen toward your balance
Daily caps apply (5 rated games per day earn Pollen — you can keep rating beyond that, but additional Pollen doesn’t accrue). Build streaks for bonus Pollen and XP.

The Buzz Score

Every game on Buzzr gets a Buzz Score — a 1–10 forecast for how must-watch the matchup is. Tap the bee icon on any game detail to see the exact breakdown.

The formula

Buzz = 0.45 × Star Power + 0.25 × Rivalry + 0.30 × Stakes + Clutch
(then clamped to 1.0 – 9.9, with league-specific floors applied)
Three factors do the work, plus a clutch modifier that kicks in during tight live games.
FactorWeightWhat it measures
Star Power45%Quality of the two teams — derived from season stats (scoring margin, form, ranks). Weighted toward the stronger team.
Rivalry25%Historic rivalry, divisional matchup, or top-of-table clash.
Stakes30%Pre-game: blend of star power and rivalry. Live: how close the scoreboard is.
Clutch±A late-game adjustment during tight live contests.

Per-league variations

Every league uses the same formula but derives the inputs from league-appropriate data so a “Buzz 8” in the NBA means the same thing as a “Buzz 8” in the Premier League.
  • NBA / WNBA — Hand-tuned power index per team + curated rivalry list. NBA playoff games (Apr–Jun) get a 7.0 score floor and a playoff-intensity clutch bonus.
  • NCAAM — Power derived live from season stats (pace, 3-point %, KenPom-style efficiency). Tournament games (both teams seeded) get a 7.2 floor; seed gaps feed a Cinderella bonus.
  • NFL — Star Power from points differential, turnover margin, 3rd-down efficiency, and last-3 form. Divisional matchups get a rivalry bump. Jan–Feb games get a playoff floor.
  • MLB — Star Power from run differential, ERA, OPS, and last-5 form. Stakes scale in runs: a 1-run game is clutch, a 7-run margin is a blowout. October games get a postseason floor.
  • NHL — Star Power from goal differential, power-play %, penalty-kill %, and last-10 form. Stakes scale in goals: 1-goal game is tight, 3+ goals is likely done. Apr–Jun games get a playoff floor.
  • EPL / LaLiga / Bundesliga / Serie A / Ligue 1 / Liga MX / NWSL / MLS — Star Power from goal difference, recent form, and league position. Top-4 clashes get a rivalry bump. Stakes scale in goals: a level match is maximum drama.
  • Champions League — Uses whichever domestic league a club plays in for Star Power. All UCL matches get a 6.8 floor; knockout-round matches (Feb–May) get a 7.5 floor.

Your personal Buzz

Buzz is also personalized. After the base score is calculated, two signed adjustments can shift it:
  • Your interest (± up to 0.8) — If you’ve swiped toward a team, their games get a bump. If you’ve skipped them repeatedly, their games dip.
  • Crowd heat (± up to 0.75) — Once a game has at least 5 community reactions (🔥 / skip), the fire/skip ratio nudges the score. Low vote counts are down-weighted so a handful of early reactions can’t dominate.
Both adjustments show up in the breakdown sheet with their signed contributions so you can always see why a game scored high for you specifically.

Confidence and floors

  • Games with unknown teams (no season stats available) default Star Power to 5.0 and surface an “Estimated” reason in the breakdown.
  • League floors guarantee inherently-compelling matchups (playoffs, tournaments, UCL knockouts) can’t score below a threshold even if live data is sparse.
  • Final scores are always clamped to 1.0 – 9.9 to preserve perfect 10s for curated editorial picks.
